18 Jun Gloria Villalba Awards Ceremony
Yesterday we were in Monreal del Campo, celebrating and sharing!
The call for proposals was a resounding success, with 10 projects implemented on sustainable tourism, historical and cultural heritage, environmental awareness, and intergenerational work, involving more than 200 young people in the three Aragonese provinces. All proposals had a tangible, positive impact on their local communities, demonstrating the commitment, creativity, and transformative potential of rural youth.
The awards ceremony concludes a 10-month process that has kept the Aragonese rural territory united and networking around social entrepreneurship and youth participation.
The event began at 11:00 a.m. with the arrival from Andorra of the 10 original pieces designed and created for our awards by the students of the Gloria Fuertes Public School of Special Education, accompanied by the creativity of their teacher, Joaquín Macipe.
For two hours, young people, secondary school teachers, youth and rural development leaders, collaborating organizations, and regional policymakers shared the stage in an event that showcased the talent and potential of young people as dynamic agents in the region.
The day continued in the afternoon with activities aimed at reflection and understanding the environment. A space was dedicated to discovering the Jiloca region with a visit to the Saffron Museum, followed by a very special moment with actress María Sancho, whose performance served as a starting point for a discussion about depopulation and its effects. In addition, the young people participated in a World Café, a participatory format where they shared their opinions on life in their towns, identified needs, proposed solutions, and discussed how to improve the area they live in.
We would like to thank the CIT of Teruel, the LAAAB Aragón Open Government Laboratory, and the Monreal del Campo City Council for facilitating and believing in our purpose, which is none other than working with youth to revitalize the area.
After this edition, the organizing team is taking a well-deserved break to recharge for the second call, which will begin after the summer with new classroom training processes, project selection, initiative implementation, and a final meeting.
