14 Mar “The Whisper of the Region: A Walk Through its Traditions and Nature”
“The Whisper of the Region: A Walk Through its Traditions and Nature”, a project led by students from IES Juan de Lanuza in Borja, has been selected in the second call of the Gloria Villalba Awards.
The initiative was created with a clear goal: to highlight the historical, cultural and natural heritage of the Campo de Borja region, making it easier for anyone to discover its history, traditions and landscapes through digital tools accessible from a mobile phone.
The project proposes an innovative way of exploring the territory through geolocation and the use of QR codes. Thanks to this system, visitors will be able to scan a code with their mobile phones and instantly access multimedia content explaining the history and significance of each place.
To make this possible, the young participants will carry out several stages of work:
-
Heritage inventory: identifying and selecting around 20 monuments, outstanding natural spaces, cultural landmarks and local traditions representative of the region.
-
Multimedia content production: creating short, engaging and educational audio or video materials explaining the historical, cultural and natural significance of each point of interest.
-
Technical implementation: designing and installing QR code plaques at the selected locations to provide easy access to the information.
In addition to contributing to the touristic and cultural promotion of the region, the project also has a strong educational dimension. Students will not only learn how to use digital tools, but will also develop research, documentation and communication skills, working directly with the heritage of their own surroundings.
This initiative will also create a long-lasting educational resource, which can be used by schools across the region to work on local history, cultural heritage and traditions in the classroom.
A project for the whole community
“The Whisper of the Region” is designed to benefit society as a whole. Its content will be aimed at tourists and visitors, local residents, cultural and tourism professionals, as well as institutions and organisations dedicated to research and heritage preservation.
Through the combination of youth, technology and local knowledge, the project will offer a new way of discovering the Campo de Borja region—by listening to the stories hidden within its landscapes, monuments and traditions.
Initiatives like this show that innovation can become a key tool for protecting, sharing and revitalising rural heritage. Because sometimes, to truly understand a place, all you need to do is pause, look around… and listen to the whisper of the region.
